Florida Fence was recently privileged to tour the new garden at the Boys and Girls Club of Sarasota.
The project was spearheaded by the Junior League of Sarasota, and made possible by several local orgranizations joining together; including the University of Florida IFAS Extension, the Home Depot & Sam’s Club. Florida Fence was honored to do our part, donating and installing the picket fence surrounding the garden.
The project, which features both flowers and vegetable plants, will enrich the learning experience of the children who attend the Boys and Girls Club in several ways. Of course, children will be educated on the gardening process and participate in the cultivation of the plants in the garden – which in addition to many flowers, include corn, beans, peppers, lettuce and spinach; as well as rosemary, basil and oregano. Some of the older participants will also be given the opportunity to harvest and prepare the food as a part of the Culinary program being offered by the Club.
Overall, this garden is a living example of how the community can come together to help teach and inspire the youth of Sarasota. Those of us at Florida Fence are grateful for the opportunity to participate in such a great cause.
